In January 1984, Colmar Ink and Chemical Corporation was formed to acquire and operate the Hendershot Inks Company. This Company was a family owned business, and had operated in the Ontario and Quebec markets for 40 years. This company had a core business that included lithographic, Flexographic and Gravure inks. ■ The acquisition by Colmar injected a much needed, hands on management approach, and increased the technical capabilities of the Company. Company efforts were then directed at the modernization of production facilities and technical improvements to the complete product range. ■ By supplying high quality inks and superior service, Colmar has become one of the largest suppliers of ink to the Canadian corrugated industry. Current market share is 60% of post print corrugated ink in Ontario. Due to the increasing requirement for inks for high graphic applications, together with specialized technical backup, 1998 saw a separate “High Graphics” division formed under the “RAMCOLOR” banner. ■ This new division is headed up by Andrew (Andy) Dymon who has many years experience in water based inks. Andy is an acknowledged expert in aqueous “High Graphics” applications. ■ Colmar Corporation is owned and managed by Ralph Marshall who has spent his entire career in the ink manufacturing industry, and is highly respected for his charismatic no- nonsense business approach. Ralph has a B.A. from McMaster, and an M.B.A. from York University and is a past president of the Canadian Printing Ink Manufacturers Association, and has served as a director of the Canadian Paper Box Manufacturers Association.
